Joy as pedophile’s house burns

RESIDENTS of a tiny town in Victoria drank beer and cheered as they watched a convicted pedophile’s home engulfed in flames.
Most of the town’s 16 residents and at least two dozen spectators, watched the weatherboard home of Terrence Allan Ellis, 52, burn on Sunday, soon after an open day at a pioneer park.
Can’t say I blame them.  If I lived in the town I could see myself in attendance handing out cans of petrol to keep it going.

  • The trouble with the lynch mobs is that the targeting of the deeply (and justifiably) unpopular is just the start. It really is a slippery slope you’re encouraging.

Sure it was a very real failure of the justice system in this case (and many other cases these days). But vigilantism is weakness not strength.

  • I don’t support vigilantism and when I made the post that wasn’t mentioned although it was a good guess that some arson was involved.

    Flippant more than serious
