Fool of a father

A 14-YEAR-old British girl has been arrested after protesting against whaling outside the Japanese embassy in London, inspired by the work of Greenpeace in the Southern Ocean.
One video clip which showed a whale being blown up, had “hit me hard”, she said. The video pushed her to stage the hour-long protest because she felt it was wrong to wrong to “brutally murder” whales. “It’s a very important subject at the moment. They’re such amazing creatures and they deserve rights and love and a bit of respect,” she said.
For a moment there I thought she was talking about whales, you know, those very, very big sea creatures. But no, she’s obviously talking about people. Phrases such as – brutally murdered… deserve rights, love and respect are normally reserved for humans. She should be released and told to go home and start acting like a teenager, to keep away from her father and do her bloody homework and he should have the book thrown at him starting with Corrupting a Minor by turning her brain into mush. Bloody idiot.

  • I would be proud of her if she were my daughter.

At 14 and with that depth of compassion and sense of injustice she will make a real and positive mark on the future – certainly more so than your little hate file will!

  • Opinions are fine…locking your child to the gates of an embassy is radical. I don’t do radical.

You’re confusing a different opinion with hate and that’s confusing!

  • Kev
I reckon it’s healthy for kids to adopt radical positions – whether well thought out or not – and to act on their beliefs. Where fathers come in is to make sure, if possible, they come to no major harm. It’s all part of the old chestnut – “If you haven’t been a communist before you’re twenty-one, something is missing from your development. If you’re still a communist after twenty-one, something is wrong with your maturity”.
I think my kids would be extremely embarrassed if I attempted to involve them in anything like this – and even more so if I accompanied them.
This situation is a little weird – usually kids adopt positions diametrically opposed to that of their parents. To my enduring disapointment, none of my four kids have shown the slightest interest in politics. They’re probably sick of me ranting on and have decided that it’s a waste of time – more important things to do like studying, earning a living, socialising etc.

  • You know, I really feel sorry for those big beautiful juicy oversized ocean cows.

Floating out there.. I mean we hunt fish and squid and that’s ok …isn’t that descrimination?? that we don’t hunt whales?
The environment is like a good red, you’ve got to consume it to enjoy it
14 is a time of bad pop music, fashion fads and puberty, what the heck is this girl doing? Brain washed suspect anyone?

    Ps
I am 23 and still waiting for that commie experience
It’s unlikely though -it just does not make any real sense to me

  • Lots of characteristics of Gen Y don’t make sense to me – historically high rates of depression, a tendency to binge, disinterest in issues that don’t relate to self….
Maybe an interest in radical causes – however misguided – is not all bad. At least it would be a change from complete self-absorption.
They’re probably the most brainwashed generation so far – most of it emanating from the corporate media.
I’ve got nothing against Harry Potter per se (for example), but the commercial indoctrination around this industry could teach the worst excesses of most totalitarian regimes a thing or two.

  • I’ve yet to come across a Progressive that hasn’t underlining reasons (projection and self.) for a cause.

  • I have to agree with Mr 1735099

And I am from that generation.
Apathy on major, important issues is huge

Kinda new age sorta idea of ‘i’m just going to do my own thing and not worry about anything else around me’

    Rather selfish

  • Japanese whale fishing is completely lawful.
    And is completely scientific.
In addition, it is a Japanese gastronomic culture to eat whales.
You should refrain from the act of denying the culture of another country.

  • Okay, first I would like to say to Daisk5 that Japanese whaling may be lawful, but what is the point of slaughtering so many of such an endangered species for “scientific experimentation” and for food? Number one, I have loads of friends in Japan(don’t piss me off and think that I’m lying because I was there for 8 months for a school exchange program) and whale meat is liked by about like only 2% of the population. In eight months, I went to one place in Kagoshima that sold whale meat. Not only that but after the last whale hunts, 4000 tonnes of whale meat went unsold due to it’s unpopularity.

Why experiment on whales anyway? Are they trying to come up with a way to make them even tastier? I want to believe that the Japanese government aren’t slaughtering almost a thousand whales unecessarily but I just can’t see the justification in it. How about the calf and it’s mother? Why butcher a calf?

The Japanese Government also went against international law and started hunting in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary in violation of the International Conservation Law under the United Nations World Charter for Nature. Why did they break the law in order for their so-called ‘scientific research’?

Argh, Kev, you’re a very irritating person. People who are for whaling really shit me. The killing of whales, such as the mink and humpback whales, is so wrong and ethically unsound in that it promotes the destruction of a species for the pleasure of a miniscule amount of humans. It’s rediculous.
And yes, in case any of you haven’t figured it out I am an environmental activist. I have been since I was eight. So I’ve been this way for nine years and the only change is that I’ve grown even more passionate about it. I’ve come from cleaning up trash on the streets to protesting with others in order to help the environment.

That chick who protested out the front of the embassy, well good on her I say! She’s a madd chick. I would do the same thing and yes I know that a few of you will be thinking “stupid teenagers. Of course she’s gonna believe the 14 year old was right, when they’re not conspiring against themselves they conspire against adults because they all think we’re against them” blah blah blah, heard that bullshit before… many times! Truth is, I don’t think adults are against us and I am not just agreeing with the chick because we’re teens and we stick together. I am agreeing with her because I know how it feels to have something you strongly believe in and I know how it feels to be unable to do nothing in order to help the whales.
She did what was right in accordance with her beliefs and no one has the right to judge her on that.

Why do people care so little about whales anyway? They are beautiful and magestic creatures whose lives I value FAR above ANY humans. I feel I should apologise to whales for this but, they are really not unlike us. They live, they eat, they breathe, they communicate, they give birth. They can love, they can feel pain, they feel loss and they help each other. Humans do all that too(not too sure about helping each other, besides a small number, most people are out to help only themselves). Most humans are even a similar shape to whales! Whales however are a whole lot gentler and caring than humans though. Yes I do realise that I am also speaking of myself when I speak of humans. I mean come on, all humans suck!(yes, I’m also a world hating happy emo… whatever that means) No one can say we don’t. I’d like to know what other species creates wars over religion/politics/economy/hate, murders for pleasure/religion/revenge/jealousy/to teach others that killing is wrong(capital punishment), rapes people/children/sons/daughters/babies, tortures for information/pleasure etc. What animals do that shit besides us? Whales don’t do that yet they are murdered.
Oh but hey, we’re also doing a fabulous job at destroying the rest of the world! Isn’t that just super?!

Hmm… my deep hatred for the human race and love for the environment may lead some people to believe I’ll probably end up being psychotic. Ah well. Can’t say I really care.

Anyway, this chick has done a good thing. She’s inspired me to become more active in my beliefs.
She’s not a bloody idiot Kev, and neither is her father. She WAS acting like a teenager, she was standing up for what she believed in like any teenager would. I don’t see why such phrases as “brutally murdered, deserve rights, love and respect” should be reserved for humans. Whales deserve rights, respect and love also! What if you were a whale huh?
Oh! I have an awesome idea! Let takes a knife, put it through your heart, drag it down your gut so it cuts through your muscles and intestines as if they were nothing more than taught elastic or wet paper, then let you bleed out on the deck of a foriegn ship so they can take you back to be studied. Can you see yourself as a gutted corpse, staring at the ceiling through dead eyes as they took you apart piece by piece just to see what made you tic? That sounds like a wonderful idea, don’t you agree? It’s alright as long as it’s whales but when they do it to a scummy human everyone gets pissed. How would you feel Kev if it were you or your family being slaughtered for “scientific research”?

You think she should be kept away from her father… dude… were you born with that black abyss where your heart is supposed to be or did the black hole appear there over time? He’s her father you prick, they love each other and believe in the same stuff! If you were taken from some one you loved how would you feel? Oh no wait, don’t answer that. You’d need to be able to feel in order to answer that. But seriously dude, you mustn’t have kids, and if you do, they must seriously hate you! I certainly would.

She should do her homework huh? Hahahaha! You know, the only reason I found this site is because I am doing homework! You see, other people care about whaling too. Whaling can be put into an ethical category that links it to philosophy, religion and theology, all of which I and many others study. Perhaps she does too, so you see, to do her homework can prove only to strengthen her believes, which I hope. Perhaps you’ll see us both up together one day protesting against whaling! Wouldn’t that be something? The Brit and the Aussie, protesting against whaling! Sounds madd.

I know that your little opinion thing wasn’t a hate file, even though it sounded like it. It was just an opinion of a disspassionate idiot who believes in human supremacy. You are free to tell your opinion, so why do you bag on the brit chick and her father for showing their own opinion?
I fully know that this is my opinion but it is also a hate file. But hey, it’s a free country here and I can say what ever the hell I want! Don’t ya just love those bitchy little environmentalists like me?

By the way, I realise that me comment requires very little logical argument but hey, it’s the best I can come up with after 4 hours of sleep accumulated over three days. I guess I’ll leave it there and call it a night.

    Later.

    Shari

  • Shari,
I’m not actually supporting whaling; I’m just very much against the eco-terrorist Sam Watson. Take some time to look him up. If you can find my site then you can track his record.

I have no problem with teenagers acting their age, as you are, but the girls father has some responsibility to raise her as a part of society she is going to live in and that, in my books does not include forcing his ideology on his child.

Protesting outside the Japanese embassy is not doing your homework. Researching the history of whaling in society and looking at both sides of an argument is.

It was just an opinion of a disspassionate (sic) idiot who believes in human supremacy

That debate is long gone. We humans are at the top of the food chain. I’m actually an animal lover and place most animals in their rightful place. Cows and sheep are there to feed us. If they weren’t edible and a source of protein, leather and wool they wouldn’t even exist in the numbers they do. Cats and dogs are good companions and fish are good for protein. Exotic animals of the wild like tigers etc should be protected but whales fall into a category all of their own. All of society at one time or another harvested them. Their oil is no longer needed but older societies still like to eat the meat. Inuit, people from Scandanavia and the Japanese, to name a few groups, still pursue them and it’s still legal.

The sanctuary you talk of is only recognized by two or three countries so it’s not actually an international agreement or statement of world opinion. The minke whales are not endangered – there are between 750,000 and a million existing and Japan is only talking about harvesting a thousand odd.

Maintain your passion, Shari and over the next, say five years, try to add a bit of reasoned debate. You’ll enjoy it.

  • Don’t be naive Shari

Other animals have been known to rape, steel, commit infanticide and not just kill but murder for fun.
