Getup.org don’t like Abbott

That’s a good enough reason by itself to vote for him. And no, I’m not going to link to their out-of-context Abbott quotes.

  • They had a good win today on the electoral rolls issue…..

  • If it was a good win for them then it is most probably bad for Australia.
In my opinion they bring nothing to the table.

How can giving voters the best chance to enrol to vote be bad for the country?

I don’t like Tony Abbott and thats a good enough reason not to vote for him.

    • Then don’t vote for him. If you can still vote ALP after all the exposure and mismanagement detailed in the Australian and other media then you deserve what they dish up.

  • I won’t be voting for Abbott either, but nor will I be voting for Gillard. Neither of their names appears on the ballot paper for Groom, my electorate.
Maybe Australians will wake up at some point to the understanding that we don’t have a presidential system.
The unrelenting take-up of American media has misappropriated our understanding of the Westminster system.

One of the things I dislike about this election has been the concentration of personalities and not policies. If the media did the right thing and reported on the policies the people might be better informed in making a decision.
As for who get my vote, there are more than two fish in the sea.

  • It’s the way of the future…all about personalities. You have to read widely and between the lines to get a hook on policies and even then you have to make the call as to whether they are practical, believable and in the best interest of the country.

When the voter is thusly armed he/she has to think past their natural biases. If every day you are eaten up with, for example, the trials and tribulations of the ‘poor’ boat people, then some are likely to vote for the party that you think helps them best.

If you think chopping down a tree, any tree, is a sin against your Green God then you vote for the party that protects trees the most.
Hence the insane Greens polling 10-16% and we are in risk of them having the BOP.

Not good but it’s what we have to live with it – can’t disenfranchise these single issue voters….can’t make ’em think wider than their single issue…can’t make ’em think at all

I’ll vote Libs, not because I think Abbott’s marvelous but because he, and thus my local aspiring MP , represents policies that are closer to the way I believe the country should be run. Being in Wayne Swan’s electorate my vote could be seen as wasted but the principle holds and we must hold to principles.

Having said that, when people say they are voting for Gillard or Abbott they don’t mean that literally. Abbott and Gillard simply represent an ideology and thinking people vote for that. Single issue people vote for themselves.

    • well you nearly got there, 11% swing against your sitting member, more people like you and we’ll show all long serving career politicians that they can’t stuff this country around anymore
