Fahrenheit 9/11

Yeah. I know. The subject has been around for awhile but I’ve decided to include this link to 59 deceits by Dave Kopel to help readers gain access to a critical assessment of the politdoco produced by Michael Moore. I haven’t seen Fahrenheit 9/11 and have no intentions of doing so. To me it would be like taking time out of my busy life to spend an evening with Phillip Adams. I just have better ways of spending my time than watching a 122 minute anti-Bush/US political add peppered with lies, lies of omission and half truths. It amazes me that people in Brisbane Australia will pay good money to watch a Democrat Political ad and accept it in blind faith. What?s more upsetting is that Moore is making buckets of money out of the exercise and no-one is calling him to order other than in the blogworld. Great money if you can get it. I bet John Singleton never made anywhere as much money out of any of his ALP TV adverts. But then John is not as unprincipled as Moore. I’m surprised Phillip Adams hasn’t thought of this and produced a politdoco making Howard look like a liar and a fool using the same formulae as Moore. Get an unflattering film clip of Howard, season with lies, lies of omission and half truths and sell it to the world. Then again, maybe Phil has thought of it. As an aside. Can you imagine the uproar if someone produced a similar piece on John Kerry. We would never hear about it. The press would block it and no actor would even look at a script and yet with Kerry’s background it would be a great expose. Ah, the dream. Level playing field – unbiased media. Stupid of me, I know.

  • What’s a man to do?

My son (who is in Yr 10 in an ACT high school) has told me today that his teacher (Subject – Business Studies) is thinking about taking the class to a screening of F 9/11.

I nearly fell over. I wasn’t outraged – I was saddened. I really don’t know what to say to my boy, although already he knows my feelings about politics (I regularly feed him comments from Tim Blair’s site which are well written or very funny, but I don’t let him dwell on the overall post – not yet {let him be a “child for a while longer}).

Stuffed if I know what a business class is supposed to get out of it – the power of “advertising”?

I can’t wait to see the permission note – what a discussion?

  • Have him read 59 Deceipts. It could be an idea to suggest the teacher look at it as well. Teachers, of all the professions, would be interested in giving their pupils a chance to access both sides of any debate. Wouldn’t they?

  • I’ve received the permission note.

It says in part – ” In this class we look at the interaction between both business and government. As part of the course we will be going see the movie Fahrenheit 9/11 as it explores the possibility of corruption between big business and Government”.

    What a load of shit?

The young bloke says it will open his eyes to “lies and deceit in movies” – I don’t want to give the theatre my hard earned – as a matter of principle.

  • I haven’t seen the film, either. But, come on. Lies of omission, and half-truths, maybe. Par for the course, this politcal season. But I highly doubt that there are any outright lies in it – if so, where are the libel lawsuits?

On the other hand, I don’t think it should be subsidized by schools.

For a very good example of the length the right is willing to go, in response, see the so-called “swift boat veterans for the truth” ad.

Turnabout is fair play, I reckon…the left side needs to get much meaner, I think.

  • The young fella went and saw the “fillum”. I am sad to to say that I should have trusted him more than I did.

He was actually pointing out things to his mates that had them thinking. He said there was one or two funny moments, but overall didn’t really like it.

He believed it to be too biased – ie He knew it was a doco – but where was the oppo point of view?

There is hope for some of the following generations!
