ALP to hold another ASIO enquiry

I recall the last ASIO enquiry conducted by the ALP when Senator Murphy, accompanied by Kerry Milte, raided ASIO HQ. I was an Infantry Platoon Sergeant at the time and stilll in shock from having a government openly supporting the enemy and assailing diggers for having done thier duty. The ALP, paranoid then about ASIO and obviously still worried about them today, have some cause to be worried. Lets face it a good percenatge of their members are so left-wing as to be a concern to the national security. This is how the last enquiry was conducted.
At 11:00 pm on 15th March 1973 Canberra ASIO Chief (Colin Brown) gets a call from Murphy. Brown had just got to sleep. Get into my office in 10 minutes. Can’t. In my pajamas. I’ll be there in 15 minutes. Met by Murphy, Milte and female secretary. In Browns office Murphy sits and grills Brown for two hours while Brown is forced to stand. Milte makes sneering remarks. Murphy orders files to be delivered to office. Brown calls in record chief and 2IC. Murphy flicks though files. When he found information regarding terrorist activity he shouted at ASIO Chief “Why wasn’t I told this? ASIO Chief explains there is no concrete evidence that would stand up in court so watching brief only.
The ‘enquiry’ goes on in the same vein with Murphy yelling and Milte (all of 23 at the time) slipping in snide comments. Check Google on Murhy and Milte Interesting. The Left will do anything within their power to embarrass ASIO and make Howard look bad and don’t tell me they’re not pushing the same ASIO Enquiry barrow as they did nearly 30 years ago. Now that communism has been outed as an obscenity against mankind and particularly against their own citizens, the Left can only pursue those who destroyed it – the US and those conservative governments that have the temerity to share common beliefs. Quotes from “The Whitlam Venture” by Alan Reid, 1976. An excellent source of all of Whitlam’s stuff ups under one cover. The more things change the more they stay the same.

  • I dunno, Kev. I reckon the ALP will suddenly start to lose interest in all these enquiries, investigations and other stupid accusations if they get into government. I reckon it’s all just a part of their efforts to keep the alleged ‘dishonesty’ of the current govt in the spotlight.

  • I agree wholeheartedly Al. I reckon it’s just that I don’t trust the left not to pursue ASIO if they get the keys to the treasury.

  • I seem to recall that one George Negus was also in the “raiding party” that hit ASIO- some sort of politcal hack for Lionel Murphy at the time.

    Hasn’t changed his spots, either.

  • Negus was Murphy’s Press Secretary at the time but I can’t find a mention of him in the raid. Certainly he would’ve been in on it and would’ve had his time cut out aver the ensuing weeks trying to make another Whitlam Government blunder appear reasonable.
