Aussies most welcome

The US has created a special visa for Australians to work in the US. Until now Aussies have had to compete for a 65,000 visa issue worldwide – now we have our own bucket of 10,500 visas to dip into.
Some 10,500 E3 visas will be issued annually to Australians with tertiary qualifications who have job offers from American employers, including universities, government departments and businesses. There is no age limit.
The bill found no opposition in the Senate.
There was no debate on the provision, which was passed unanimously by the Senate, but it is believed that there was widespread support for the new visas, given Australia’s close relationship with the US.
Another flow-on from the Free Trade Agreement and rightly supporting the US in it’s fight against terrorism. It’s funny, but I notice the Left have stopped carping about how the agreement was going to be the ruin of Australia’s industry.
Trade Minister Mark Vaile hailed the new visa as “a significant breakthrough” that would allow Australian business to capitalise on the opportunities created by the free-trade agreement with the US.
Bloody Howard, just keeps on winning. Wonder if the Kiwis got any extra visas?

  • This is a good thing.

  • I only have one problem.
A lot of those leaving to work in the States will be Doctors and Medical Specialists who will be paid tens of thousands more than they will here.
Can we afford the drain on our already overworked medical system.
And…… a system that appears to be already taking up the slack by employing anybody that says they are a Doctor, even those trained in third world conditions.
    Free trade……great.
    This situation …………. not sure

  • Good point Nemises although my children, medical specialists among them, did the European tour for a year or two and then came home all the better qualified for the experience. The call of family and home is still strong. I don’t think we are going to stop brain drains all the way up the scale from third world to second then to first. It is now a cosmopilitan world and I trust that the ‘Dr Death’ type problems are fixed.

I would hope it turns into a free exchange of talent and ideas rather than just free trade. There are, after all, good reasons for others to live and work in Australia notwithstanding remuneration drops from the US to Aus I still believe there are professionals that pursue ideals and quality of life as well as money.

    I hope I’m right.

  • The ‘Administrator Says’ is actually Kev says. I haven’t got on top of logging in yet.

  • “… who will be paid tens of thousands more than they will here.”

Evil, evil capitalism. Fancy paying people more to secure their services. Where will it all end?

  • Hey PQ, you’ll get no arguement from me.

I don’t believe that anyone, no matter who they are should have any social responsibility ……… after all, it is all about the money.

I believe that people should pay for ALL services they receive and get the level of service comensurate with what they pay. Lets say for instance, Police ……. no pay lots of money – no protection from criminals or any ratbag that wants to bash you, rape you, rob you, kill you etc. just for the hell of it. The nerve of some people to expect that level of protection by Police who are paid so little, goodness where will that end.

Ambulance, no pay lots of money, die on street. Fire Service, no pay lots of money, watch your house burn down.

Oh my God, where will it all end.

I’m with you mate, bring on capitalism in its purist form….. suits me fine. I’m an enterprising sort of guy, I can see opportunities galore.

Perhaps then we can become one of those third world countries and it won’t matter about using Doctors from there.

    Oh, I wish.
