Queensland not happy

THE Queensland government, as host of last weekend’s G20 summit, is incensed over what it sees as an ill-informed, insulting speech from Barack Obama about climate change, the Great Barrier Reef and coal. I don’t blame them, I was incensed as well that Obama turned an economic forum into a meeting of the Church of the Later Day Alarmists.
Mr Obama said on Saturday that climate change “here in Australia” means “longer droughts, more wildfires” and “the incredible natural glory of the Great Barrier Reef is threatened”.
Where on earth did he drag that from?
“I have not had a chance to go to the Great Barrier Reef and I want to come back, and I want my daughters to be able to come back, and I want them to be able to bring their daughters or sons to visit,” the President said.
Your kids and their kids and their kids ad infinitum will be able to visit the reef…it’ll still be here.  Cyclones and Crown of Thorns star fish are the biggest threat to the reef and it has recovered from everything thrown at it so far.

The only thing the Queensland government is incensed about is that they couldn’t control what the visiting leaders said.
I don’t blame them; I was incensed as well that Obama turned an economic forum into a meeting of the Church of the Later Day Alarmists.
Except that everything Obama said about the reef is true – http://www.sciencemag.org/content/318/5857/1737.short
Noddy and the collection of white shoe spivs that constitute his administration are worried that the mining and real estate interests that are the real government in Queensland will come off second best if the mad rush to exploit coal and gas is more carefully regulated.

Perhaps he’s been reading the science instead of paid shills like Andrew Bolt – http://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/
Perhaps he also understands the difference between warming and the rate of warming. Bolt spouts the “no warming since 1998” nonsense because he believes his readers can’t tell the difference between a trend and a rate. Obviously, some of them can’t – particularly those who think the earth is flat. A quick perusal of the science shows that warming has continued unabated since 1968. The only thing that’s changed is the rate. The car is still heading for the cliff, only now it’s traveling at 40km per hour instead of 60.

The agreement between China and USA is a watershed. Obama doesn’t need congress to implement his side of the bargain, and the Chinese have no choice, given the toxic atmosphere which most urban Chinese experience.

Only 1 percent of the China’s 560 million city dwellers breath air considered safe by international standards. Air pollution is particularly bad in the rust belt areas of northeastern China. A study done by the World Health Organization estimated that the amount of airborne suspended particulates in northern China are almost 20 times what WHO considers a safe level.

A poll conducted by the Pew Research Center before the 2008 Olympics found that 74 percent of the Chinese interviewed said they were concerned about air pollution. It’s got much worse since and kills over half a million Chinese annually. The irony in this is that the pollution is a daily fact of life for the most populous nation on earth – it’s visible – and despite the restraints of command economy, the Chinese people will not, in the long run, continue to tolerate it. The leadership is well aware that China has no choice.

China has the world highest number of deaths attributed to air pollution. The World Health Organization estimated in 2007 that 656,000 Chinese died prematurely each year from ailments caused by indoor and outdoor air.

So suck it up, people, it’s going to happen. If Abbott and co had any sense they’d be planning for an economy when the rest of the world won’t want our coal any more, or at least nowhere as much of it as they do know. That is of course, the real agenda behind the FTA with China.

  • Just had a look at fuckwit numbers blog, and of course he is backing Obama on this one.
Didn’t like the good old US of A when it got him called up for the army though.
fucking idiots got his head on backwards.

  • Politicians go to these summits largely for domestic political gain, Obama doesn’t give a damn about the Reef, bushfires in Aust or droughts here – he is playing to his American Green/Left constituents, hoping to keep the money rolling in for his party.

Unfortunately that means ignoring the normal constraints of diplomatic practice and, as a guest putting an ill informed boot into his hosts. Manners and respect have never been big on the left, throw in the colossal narcissism that Obama brings to the table and it was always going to end badly.

  • Manners and respect have never been big on the left,

And we see this – Just had a look at fuckwit numbers blog, and of course he is backing Obama on this one.

    And this –

fucking idiots (sic) got his head on backwards.

    Manners and respect? Hilarious.

  • Manners and respect is earned, not granted because Daddy did not teach you any different.

  • There is a difference numbers, you are a demonstrated liar, a clear cut idiot and a gold plated attention seeking fuckwit. you WERE treated with respect and manners until you proved repeatedly that you do not deserve any respect and that manners are utterly wasted on you, if you were not such an complete waste of time you would not be treated with the contempt that you now so richly deserve.

Unfortunately you are so desperate for attention, you seem happy to be treated with contempt, perhaps because it is the only way such a mediocre creature as yourself can get noticed at all?

Back to my point, the left show no respect for people, traditions, political conventions or manners – Obama dumped a load of crap on a friendly nation to try to score points at home.

Moving on briefly to what you so risibly seem to consider telling points –

“Coral Reefs Under Rapid Climate Change and Ocean Acidification”

Interesting document that you cite, firstly you might want to read up on the Ph levels of seawater, since it is alkaline rather than acidic I think we can ignore this claptrap and as you acknowledge the Globe hasn’t warmed in 17 years, so “Rapid Climate Change” impacting on “Ocean Acidification” and the Reef seems unlikely.

Given that you aren’t very bright, I’m assuming that you thought nobody would check the stuff you cite, I’m not sure we can rate this as another of your lies, but certainly a very dishonest citation. why am I not surprised?

“Perhaps he also understands the difference between warming and the rate of warming. Bolt spouts the “no warming since 1998” nonsense because he believes his readers can’t tell the difference between a trend and a rate. Proof that you are a fool, the 17 year pause in warming has happened at a time that CO2 emissions have dramatically increased – Anthropogenic Global Warming theory (AGW) AKA “Global Warming” does not allow for this at all, CO2 increases greenhouse effect under AGW, so the last 17 years have disproven the theory. hint, when reality does not agree with your theory, back reality to be right.

Re China/US “deal”, it is non binding and even if it was binding, would never pass the senate – only idiots think it is either a deal or important.

    • the 17 year pause in warming has happened
      What “pause”?
      Citations please.
And don’t dress up a pause in the rate of warming with a pause in warming – which is obviously what you seek to do.

      • Sorry dickhead, I owe you nothing – I’ve seen you lie so often that I consider you a joke and nothing more – you lie, get caught, then lie about your lies, then try to shift the goal posts. its SOP for you.

For anyone interested in the facts rather than numbers usual lies and evasions, look up the GSS (satellite) records or simply go to –

        http://wattsupwiththat.com/reference-pages/global-weather-climate/global-temperature/

        as a good starting point.

BTW, numbers it isn’t a pause in the rate of warming, it is a statistically insignificant decline in recorded global average temperatures, but don’t let the facts get in the way of your idiocy.

But, if you want cites for the pause, you might try reading some of the climate gate emails, as I’ve said before numbers – google is your friend, it can stop you making a fool of yourself. again.

        • Sorry dickhead, I owe you nothing
That’s an abusive cop-out, not an argument.
And I don’t get my information about global warming from extremist blog sites.
          I go to the science – http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2002JD002670/full

          • Or to put it another way, you’ve got no reply to the fact that you are a proven liar and can find no credible reason why anyone should address the questions you put anymore, good. we are agreed.

“And I don’t get my information about global warming from extremist blog sites.”

The above is an abusive cop-out, not an argument.

You might try arguing the science, but then having to deal with data is not your thing.

  • Well 1735099 you’ve learned the leftist tactic of conflating well, you’ve combined Harry Buttle’s comment with Roly’s response ( I agree rude, but he didn’t make the claim), just as you’ve combined a real Chinese problem of actual pollution “airborne suspended particulates in northern China are almost 20 times what WHO considers a safe level” with the fake pollution of Carbon Dioxide a trace gas plant food.

The Chinese are just getting around to doing what the Americans largely did in the 80’s (Take a look at Smog pics of LA in the early 70’s) and that is clear up smog they just need to make sure they do it in such a way it doesn’t affect their cheap labour advantage, when it come to power it will be whatever is cheapest, Coal at this stage though Nuclear might reboot.

“Climate Science” is one of the weakest sciences going, it’s up there with Psychology, Epidemiology, prices on Race Horses are better Science , not surprisingly, based as it is on proxy data and computer modelling no responsible Government would take any notice of it BUT ! If you believe Big Government it gives you License to interfere in ANYTHING! Climate Change is a Political Issue not to addressed by Scientists but Politicians who need to destroy as a Political force.

  • no responsible Government would take any notice of it

So the governments of the 75 countries taking action on climate change are “irresponsible” – http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/jschmidt/110_countries_copenhagen_accord.html – yeah right……………

    • 75 nations have communicated actions that they are planning to take….. is a far cry from “taking action”. A bit like the Chinese are taking action by agreeing to do nothing for the next 16 years to reduce their emissions ( in fact increasing emissions for at least 16 years and then reducing the rate of increase). Read your reference material thoroughly before quoting.

      • 75 nations have communicated actions that they are planning to take….. is a far cry from “taking action”.
Take just one example – the Chinese have been actively decreasing emissions since 2000 – http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0360544204001896

        • Lets get back to your previous reference shall we. 75 nations have communicated that they have made plans to take action. Still not taking action…..seeming, not doing.
You do realise your latest reference is from a paper published in 2004 by Chinese authors and, as is the situation even now, unverifiable by nations outside China. You fail to understand (or intentionally ignore) that they are currently increasing CO2 output for economic reasons by building who knows how many coal burning power stations (it matters not that more modern methods mean better burn rates with less CO2, it is still an increase)and you and POTUS think its okay to have the Chinese PEAK their emissions in 2030 with no reference to reducing the emissions past that year. If you think that’s ok, then you should be pushing for a similar agreement for Australia. It is a deferment of responsibility similar to being deferred from conscription to complete studies, but without having to be ultimately responsible.

  • Hello 17…

I don’t expect the following piece will change your mind. But, one never knows.

You might care to read elsewhere how Dr Mann, the inventor of the “hockey stick” sued Mark Steyn 5 years ago for defamation. This was after Steyn exposed Mann and his hockey stick as frauds. Dr Mann has since done everything to avoid finalisation of the case – now why would that be?

For those of us who were always leery of the warming jamboree, this extract from one of Steyn’s articles reinforces our concerns.

“…… But it’s hard to see why he should be presiding over a multi-trillion-dollar shakedown of the global economy. For one thing, Dr. Pachauri has one of the largest carbon footprints on the planet. He’s in favour of “hefty aviation taxes” to “deter people from flying,” but fortunately once you’re part of the transnational jet set nothing can deter you. He flew 443,243 miles on “IPCC business” in the year-and-a-half run-up to Copenhagen. I’m not sure whether that includes his two weekend round trips from New York to Delhi, once for a cricket practice, once for a match.

Needless to say, opening the Carbonhagen shakindownen inaugural session, he dismissed the “Climategate” revelations as a “theft.” Not so. They were a leak by a concerned insider — the sort of chap we usually hail as a “whistle-blower.” In this case, he can blow the whistle as loud as he likes but, like a deaf Central Railways conductor waiting to pull out for Wadala Road from the Victoria Terminus, Dr. Pachauri can’t hear him. All the science has been “peer-reviewed,” he says, so what could possibly go wrong?

I wrote a couple of weeks back about the corruption of “peer review” revealed by the CRU leaks. But, once it’s got the peer-reviewed label, it’s hard to dislodge. The famous hockey stick graph created by Dr. Michael Mann played a critical role in persuading millions of people we’re all gonna fry. In the National Post of April 2, 2001, after the UN had adopted this graph as the official proof of global warming, I pointed out that the first nine centuries of the millennium were measured by using tree-ring cycles, and the modern era was represented by temperatures. Now I’m not a climatologist. I’m not even a railroad engineer. But, if you show me a graph that looks like a long bungalow with the Empire State Building tacked on the end, I’ll go, “Whoa! That looks pretty serious. We better head for the hills.” If it then emerges in the fine print that the bungalow was created with one unit of measurement and the skyscraper another, I’ll postpone my departure and go, “Er, hang on, what’s the deal with that? If we’ve got tree rings for the first nine centuries, why can’t we stick with the tree rings through the 20th?”

Answer: because after 1960 the tree rings show no express elevator up the thermometer, but in fact a decline. That’s the “decline” that Dr. Phil Jones, in his leaked email, is trying to “hide.” Because, if you don’t hide it, a basic truth emerges — that the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than today, and the planet managed to survive and indeed prosper during it. It took two dogged Canadians, Steve McIntyre and Ross McKitrick, to demolish the hockey-stick fraud, and the enraged priests of the Settled Science cult have spent the years since 2006 trying to stick it back together. Dr. Keith Briffa had a crack in 2007 for the IPCC report. As usual, the CRU refused, in defiance of basic scientific etiquette, to reveal its raw data, but eventually the Royal Society ordered them to. And, when they did, it emerged that Dr. Briffa had cherry-picked a few trees from the Yamal peninsula in Siberia to obtain the desired result.

Question: can you measure any tree-ring cycles for the last millennium and get a genuine hockey stick?

Answer: yes. Tree Number YAD061. That’s it. One tree. The temperature records show no warming in Siberia over the last half-century. But you can’t see the forest for the tree, singular. Mr. McIntyre calls it “the most influential tree in the world,” which hardly does justice to what’s being contemplated in its name. YAD061 is the Tree of Life, at least in the sense that millions of lives across the world will, in its name, be transformed by ever greater taxation and regulation. And, as Dr. Pachauri rebukes us, YAD061 can never be questioned because it’s peer-reviewed…..”

  • You reference a lot of dated reports…..things have changed since 2008 in case you haven’t noticed. Even the IPCC has modified its assertions in line with more recent data. Try and keep up.

  • You reference a lot of dated reports
    They’re not dated.
Subscribe to a few scientific journals and watch how they operate.
If you understood scientific method, you’d know that it takes up to five years for a study to be peer reviewed and then published. The respectable journals are very conservative, and won’t publish until they’re absolutely certain that the data and conclusions are reproducible or proof based. Their reputations depend on it.
Contrast this with the crap that opinionistas post about climate change, and you will begin to understand how the coolist entrepreneurs operate.
Science is by its nature, ponderous and painstaking. It abhors the daily news cycle and the ranting of extremists.
