9/11 planners for the high jump

THE Pentagon today said it would charge six Guantanamo inmates with 2,973 counts of murder over their role in the September 11 attacks. The suspects include the self-confessed mastermind of the terror attacks, Khalid Sheik Mohammed.
“The defendants will face the possibility of being sentenced to death,” said Brigidier General Thomas Hartmann, a Pentagon legal advisor, announcing the move.
Good!
The CIA admitted publicly for the first time last week, some of his confessions were extracted during sessions when he was subjected to “waterboarding,” a drowning simulation technique widely regarded as torture. Brigidier General Hartmann admitted that the first court battles are likely to focus on the admissibility of such confessions, as well as the legality of the tribunal itself. The tribunal rules have been extensively re-written since the Supreme Court ruled they breached the Geneva Convention and demanded more rights for defendants.
Now we will have the Human Rights (no Responsibility) mob queuing up to prattle on about torture. Some will even demand they be released because they had water poured over their faces and a confession obtained under torture is no confession. Some of these people will be Americans, some Australian, all of whom enjoy the benefits of western civilization while trying to undermine what made it great in the first place. Just make sure they did it and then top the bastards – the terrorists that is. We have to put up with the other bastards.

Afghanistan

As the ALP always termed Afghanistan as the Good War to distinguish it from Iraq,which, for some unfathomable reason (to me anyway) they classify as the Bad War, one could expect them to support and maybe even raise our troop levels. But I’m starting to think that is an unsafe expectation. Joel Fitzgibbon, our new Defence Minister is busy making demands of NATO that on the face of it will be unmet. Australia isn’t a member of NATO, it only has observer status and whereas the article quotes Fitzgibbon being a tough guy it’s is all about public consumption in Australia. Look how smart we are and look how stupid the Libs were. We are telling NATO how to run things while John Howard just sent the troops in to do the job. I can just see all the NATO nations and HQ Senior staff rushing to do Australia’s bidding. Listen to the brilliance of new guys Rudd and Fitzgibbon….they have the answers we have been looking for…it’s OK, the war is won I’m also a bit concerned that it foretells the ALP reducing our commitment but time will tell. For those interested I have included a list of contributors and relevant strengths as at 6 Feb 08 United States – 15,000 United Kingdom – 7,800 Germany – 3,200 Italy – 2,800 Canada – 2500 Netherlands – 1,650 France – 1,515 Poland – 1,100 Australia – 1,070 Denmark – 780 Spain – 740 Turkey – 675 Romania – 535 Norway – 495 Bulgaria – 420 Belgium – 370 Sweden – 345 Lithuania – 260 Hungary – 230 Croatia – 190 Portugal – 160 Greece – 150 Albania – 140 Czech Republic – 135 Eastonia – 135 Republic of Macedonia – 130 New Zealand – 115 Finland – 105 and Austria, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iceland, Ireland, Jordan, Luxemburg, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland with less than 100 troops

CIA admits waterboarding al-Qai’da men

WASHINGTON: The CIA has for the first time admitted publicly that it used “waterboarding“, or simulated drowning, in interrogations of three top al-Qa’ida detainees nearly five years ago. So? Here’s their profiles;
Mohammed has claimed to be the operational mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Abu Zubaydah is alleged to have been an aide to al-Qa’ida leader Osama bin Laden. And al-Nashiri is alleged to have been the operational commander of the suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000.
I note the use of the word “admits” like they have admitted to a heinous crime, maybe even as bad as murdering thousands of innocents by flying planes into a building. It just goes on and on, doesn’t it?

Diggers Sailors face trial over footy stoush

TWO Australian sailors accused of attacking a California man after a drunken argument about sport will stand trial in March. The article says it was all about the differences between Grid Iron and Aussie Rules but reading further I see something ominous in this statement;
The men also argued about politics in the Middle East.
Like most Vietnam Veterans I have been insulted by stupid people and it was only my absolute disdain for such opinions that stopped me from ICUing them. I can easily imagine Left wing terrorist apologists attacking a couple of sailors over them having the temerity to support a war against terrorists and if that was the case then I can only encourage excuse them for hitting out, considering the mitigating circumstances. Give them one for me when you get out boys! The Australian headline refers to Sailors as Diggers. In my long association with the military I have never heard the term used with sailors hence the strikeout in my headline – yeah, I know pedantic but accurate.

Why Benazir Bhuto was murdered

From the Counterterrorism Blog comes an article about the mob that Hicks fought for. Former Pakistani Prime Minster Benazir Bhutto was murdered because of herpotential actions in Pakistan, by the combined forces of jihadism in that country. In short, they executed her to pre-empt her future war of ideas. This was the bottom line and here is why
The long-term plan of the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan during the 1990s was to eventually spread to Pakistan and seize power, and, ultimately after 1999, to seize the nukes, too. Miscalculating on September 11, Osama bin Laden lost Kabul and the jihadi war room crossed into their eastern neighbor. Plan B was then to seize Waziristan and gradually Talibanize the country, grabbing the “doomsday” devices in the end.

Natasha’s upset

Hicks is free but Natasha’s upset. The guy who supported the people who flew aeroplanes into New York City and murdered thousands of innocents; who trained with them and considers Osama a good guy; who took up military duties for the Taliban and was prepared to kill Australians and who has been released from prison because he didn’t “break an Australian law” Yep, that guy. Give me a break. The human rights lawyers and the judiciary have turned war into a court room fiasco that argues fine points of law loudly, above the screams of dying innocents. The loving father who deserted them all, his parents, his defacto, his children, his mates (if he had any) and his country to fight with the terrorists. But wait, maybe I’m being mean. He did speak of plans for a family reunion…….but the mother of Hicks’ children said she had been “left in the dark”.
.. Teenagers Terry and Bonnie are desperate to see their father but have no idea when they will finally be reunited outside prison walls, she says. Speaking through her agent Howard Whelan, Hicks’s former defacto Jodie Sparrow said they were still waiting to be contacted.
SO he’s about to be released after 6 years of incarceration and doesn’t bother to tell his defacto and kids when he will see them. Ah, the troubled course of true love and why, as an aside, does Jodie have an ‘Agent’? The Hicks mob are looking for money
DAVID Hicks’s family is looking at opportunities to skirt federal and state proceeds-of-crime laws, with publishers advising them of loopholes that would allow the confessed terrorism supporter to sell his story.
Here’s another money making idea. Hick’s face on a t-shirt. If murdering scum Che Gueverre can get his dial on a shirt then so can this idiot. Undergrads will buy them- they’ll become de rigeur at Taliban love-ins. Hicks said he recognised “the huge debt of gratitude that I owe the Australian public for getting me home”. He doesn’t owe it to the Australian people; he owes it to the left wing luvvies, human rights lawyers and to his lawyer Mori who run a good public campaign that turned a thug and terrorist into a hero.(remember the pics of the nine year old innocent) He owes it to the media, particularly the ABC/SBS/Age/SMH quartet who took his side against those who fight terrorism. He wants to go to uni and I guess he will. With a lot of the tertiary education power brokers believing he has been hard done by and considering he stuck it up the Bush and the Howard Governments he is considered a hero. I bet he gets a Luvvie Scholarship – didn’t finish high school! no worries…iffy IQ – too easy….let me write your paper for you. It aint over yet Hicks. There are a lot of Aussies who don’t like traitors.

Woman angered by silence on the Iraq War

From getup.org;
As this election looks more and more a case of “Don’t mention the war“, two brave young Australian women, both victims of the war on terror, have united to put peace back on the political agenda.
Whereas I have sympathy for both of them, they are fighting an uphill battle as news from the war gets better each day. Even the ALP are silent on the matter and the only people who want to raise a noise are the Getup mob. The media have just gone quiet about Iraq, haven’t they? Well with their idea about Iraq being, only bad news is good news, we can see why. The BBCare getting the message and The Observer, a long-time opponent to anything George Bush suggested heads an article –Packed classes hint at peace in battered Iraq in this piece I wonder if it ever occurred to the girls to blame the terrorists for their troubles? Nah can’t bash Howard with that. As usual, getup.org is off the pace but I guess they serve some kind of purpose – I just can’t think what it might be.

Muslim confusion

AUSTRALIA faces a “London-type bombing” if relations between Muslims and the intelligence and police authorities do not improve, an influential Islamic youth leader has warned. Then the solution is easy. If you are the leader the media claim you are then talk to Muslims and explain that for relations between them and Australia to improve they just need to behave better. Talk of slaughtering scores of Australians as they commute to work because of a poorly handled case against Haneef would suggest the youth leader and his followers have a problem. Not the police or ASIO.
“Look at the Haneef thing – why would we trust these guys when all you see is one fumble after another? People are afraid.”
What of?

SAS Trooper killed in Afghanistan named

Sgt Mathew Locke THE SAS soldier killed in Afghanistan yesterday was Sergeant Matthew Locke from Perth. Sergeant Locke was serving with the elite Special Air Service Regiment when he was shot and killed by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, becoming the third Australian to die in combat in the country and the second this month. Governor-General Major-General Michael Jeffery, speaking in Sydney, expressed his deepest sympathy to Sergeant Locke’s family and friends.
He said that in December last year he had presented Sgt Locke with the Medal for Gallantry for outstanding leadership and bravery under sustained fire in Afghanistan. “Sergeant Locke’s actions of gallantry whilst under enemy fire in extremely hazardous circumstances, displayed courage of the highest order….” his citation said.
Rest in Peace Sgt….duty done. UPDATE: Received this email from Defence Media;
TRIBUTE TO SERGEANT MATTHEW LOCKE The Chief of Defence Force Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston today paid tribute to Sergeant Matthew Locke who died yesterday whilst on operations in Afghanistan. “Sergeant Matthew Locke was everything you would expect of an Australian soldier. He was courageous, dedicated and very professional. He took great pride in being an Aussie digger, displaying the characteristics of loyalty, mateship and determination for which Australian soldiers are renowned, Air Chief Marshal Houston said. “Sergeant Locke died whilst working with our coalition partners and Afghan forces to drive the Taliban from their sanctuaries and create an enduring security presence in the area. Operation ‘Spin Ghar’ was to target and clear Taliban from the area around Tarin Kowt in Oruzgan Province. “Sergeant Locke had extensive operational experience in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan and was one of the finest soldiers in the Australian Army. “Sergeant Locke will be greatly missed by his brothers in arms. He was admired and respected by all who served with him. His energy, enthusiasm and sense of humour made him a popular figure in the Special Air Service Regiment.’ “In 2006, his courage was recognised with a Medal of Gallantry, one of the ADF’s highest honours. With complete disregard for his own safety, Sergeant Locke braved heavy enemy fire to neutralise the Taliban advancing on the Australian position and in doing so saved the lives of his mates. His courage on that day was but one example of the extraordinary valour we have come to expect from the Special Air Service. “The thoughts and prayers of the entire Defence organisation are with the family, friends and comrades of Sergeant Locke. We will do everything we can to support them through this difficult time,” Air Chief Marshal Houston said.

Iran still dangerous

Letter writer Mike Puleston votes to nuke Israel
THE US is preparing to attack Iran (“US shifts focus in Iran from nuclear sites to key troops”, 2/10). It has been planning to do so for a long time but recently preparations have intensified. President Bush wants to get in one last hit before he goes. However, talk of “surgical strikes” is nonsense because thousands of ordinary Iranians would die. The repressive Iranian government would be strengthened by a US attack which would solidify popular support behind it. US aggression against Iran would make Iraq look like a sideshow, especially if Pakistan were pulled in. Let us hear John Howard and Kevin Rudd say—unequivocally—that they would condemn an attack on Iran and would not cooperate with the US in any way in this mad scheme. Mike Puleston Brunswick, Vic
A lot of what Mike says could be true but he omits one possible result of a surgical anti-nuclear strike against Iran and that is, Israel would continue to exist. The Iranian President doesn’t do ‘Diplomacy’ as us westerners understand it. He is more of a Mao disciple believing ‘Diplomacy comes from the barrel of a gun’ or missile, and while his statement that he would nuke Israel is still on the books then I don’t know what other options the civilized world has. Whatever the case, I can assure you that if Iran gets close to having a bomb Israel will strike; it won’t be telegraphed and they won’t cry over the ‘Peace at any Price’ brigade and their outcries. We will read about it in the morning press – done deal! Iran has lost the ability to turn Tel Aviv into a parking lot courtesy of the IDF I doubt if Mike’s thousands of ordinary Iranians would die, more like hundreds but whatever, it would be better than millions of dead in Tel Aviv.
