Defence in shambles says head shambler

Beasley claims the ADF is a shambles but ignores the origins. Maybe there still is a bit of truth in the statement but the Howard government have been working on fixing the shambles left them by Beasley and co and overall the ADF has recovered a lot of lost ground from the years of the ALP mantra of ‘Continental Defence’.

  • Still all the Labour party’s fault…!!!!

    10 years and its still a shambles….

At what stage does the current government take responsibility ??

Perhaps we can argue that Hawke and Co were trying to fix the mess left by Fraser…. who was trying to fix the mess left by Whitlam…. who was trying to fix the mess left by Menzies and on we go ad nauesem

They’ve had 10 years and the defense department is still a joke…

Real men take responsibility, rather than pass the buck !

  • PS Kev

Waiting for your take on the National Party Rat in Victoria…..

  • You’ve ignored my point on Continental Defence and I don’t really care about Julian McGauran.

I’ll drive the agenda here thanks.

  • Beasley, If UN approved would have contributed the same ADF personel.

  • You’ve ignored my point on Continental Defence

I dont understand what point your making….?? what was this mantra and how was it responsible for the current shambels in defense ?

A more important question is how many years must a government be in power before it accepts responsibility ?

I don’t really care about Julian McGauran.

Thats unfortunate and bizzare. As one who comments from the Right, I think we’d all like to get your perspective on this matter. It clearly has implications for the conservative parties in Australia and the future of the coalition. Not an issue to be tossed lightly into the wind ! ! !

  • Same answer and I dont understand what point your making reinforces my point. If you don’t understand background leave the matter alone.

  • Then enlighten me Kev. Explain to me why the ALP mantra of ‘Continental Defence’ is directly responsible for the current shambels in the defence department.

I get the feeling you’ve made the statement without actually knowing in depth the issue.

Its a bit like me saying, well the economy is only strong now because of ALP policies of the Keating era. You would be entitled to say what do you mean ? explain, and I would then go on to point out that the deregulation of the banking system, floating of the dollar, the Accord etc. bought about stability to an economy which was in free fall following Howard’s tenure as treasurer…. alternatively, I could take the easy road and say Kev – read up on it. You obviously dont understand about the economy and you would be entitled to say, as I have if you cant explain yourself, then the argument lacks substance….

So come on, tell me the correlation between this mantra which ended 10 years ago, and the current status of the department….

Or way it just another partisan comment lacking substance ?

    If you don’t understand background…..

What background ? lay it down for all of us to see !

  • When you are talking the sort of lead times for capital procurement, for changing and retraining doctrines, for recruiting and rebuilding units and all the associated costs, you bet it takes longer than 10 years to fix Beasleys stuff ups.

Let me guess Barry, you’ve never served a day in your life?

  • “They’ve had 10 years and the defense department is still a joke…”

Exactly what the fuck would you know?

  • Bye bye Barry Bones.

  • Re “They’ve had 10 years and the defense department is still a joke…?

I’ll let Col Austin Bay (US Army) answer that one.

Quoted from an article about the decline of the Canadian military –

    ———–

Canada’s military continues to attract outstanding men and women.

I have yet to meet or serve with a Canadian soldier who failed to impress me with his professionalism and discipline. In my experience — in terms of individual, quality personnel — only Australian troops match Canadians on a one-for-one basis.

Two years ago, I had the privilege of serving with Australian troops in Iraq. The Aussies are crack. In the mid-1970s, I had the privilege of working with the 4th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group in then-West Germany. In my opinion, the Canadian brigade was the best brigade in NATO, which probably meant at that moment in time it was the best brigade man-for-man in the world.
