Boats slowing….stopping

SENATORS are demanding more answers from Immigration Minister Scott Morrison on asylum-seeker incidents amid expert advice on the power of the parliament to force the disclosure.

The chairwoman of the federal committee, Greens senator Penny Wright, said: “There is an expectation in the Australian public that the executive will be accountable . . . It is a really important democratic principle and there is a great concern in the community about the government’s lack of information about people arriving by boat.”

Yes Penny, the executive need to be accountable and as I understand it Abbott promised to slow down then stop the boats and he is doing exactly that.

I also understand that the Greens don’t want that to happen at all.  They are on record as wanting open borders so Penny is really saying she just hates the way Abbott is protecting our borders. Seriously though, with all the noise across the media about the government’s handling of the situation and with or without expert advice on the parliament forcing disclosure,  out in the public arena the majority of people are happy with how it is all turning out.

The boats are stopping and that is all the disclosure we need.

But the boats can’t be stopped… external push factors are the problem and it would mean war with Indonesia if we tried – the ALP told us so!

  2. HRT says:

I guess this is as good a time as any to remind 17… of the following comments he made on this site in Oct 13:

“What part of “no terrorists have come here by boat” do you not understand?”

“As I have pointed out, no one off a boat has committed terrorism in this country”.

However, a Lebanese “asylum seeker” was charged with making a bomb threat on an aircraft between Perth and Christmas Island a few days ago.

If he is convicted, would 17… advise if he is is still going to run with the argument that terrorists do not arrive by boat?

He hasn’t been convicted, and unless the rules of grammar have changed, one is not “terrorists”.
    Hilarious…

Nice ricochet there 17… , but it looks like you went in off the black.

Nevertheless, you may have another go at answering the question; which is:

If he is convicted, would 17… advise if he is is still going to run with the argument that terrorists do not arrive by boat?

  5. 1735099 says:

    Sure will.
Given that about 20000 IMAs have arrived since 1976, and over 2000 before that (Vietnamese) the fact that ONE of them allegedly made a threatening phone call means SFA.
As a school principal over the years we had a bomb threat drill. Idiots would phone up every now and again saying there was a bomb in the school.
By your reasoning, this would mean that we have thousands of terrorists living in our local community. Grow up.
I will continue to argue that IMAs are not terrorists, by the way, based on the evidence.
I’ve always looked to evidence over bigotry.

What a colossal, self indulgent, bullshitting wanker you are numbers!
You are routinely caught running with your own bigotry over reality.
I suspect that you don’t actually know what bigotry means (I’d suggest you look it up).

    • Bob says:

IMA arrivals in 2012/2013 numbered 18119 (IMMI records according to numbers of applications) where do you get your figures from NUMBERS? What kind of idiot are you to actually believe that one nasty captured is the total figure that have arrived? Do you see a an unusual pattern emerging where on a gender basis the numbers are female-2682 and males-15437 for that period?  We haven’t even included the figures for 1976 to 2012 in this number. You are totally clueless.
“As a school principal over the years we had a bomb threat drill. Idiots would phone up every now and again saying there was a bomb in the school”…..do you have any idea why the reaction to these threats changed from totally ignoring the threat to taking affirmative action about thirty years ago? It had something to do with the potential threat developing within our society for the threat to become a reality.

Obviously not the kind of idiot that believes that every IMA is a terrorist and who would cite the gender ratio as “evidence”.

        • Bob says:

Hardly addressing your numbers with that petty reply intended to deflect the fact that your numerical b.s. “Given that about 20000 IMAs have arrived since 1976, and over 2000 before that” is an outright lie that you refuse to address.  18119 IMAs arrived in a single year 2012/2013 according to figures supplied by IMMI.  Any one who can read is aware that Labor whilst in Govt in their most recent debacle is responsible for the importation of a figure around 50000 IMAs, but you in your usual fashion deny and refuse to address any assumption that the reds and greens got it wrong or even admit the sheer wight of numbers involved.  In case you aren’t aware of it Labor were in Govt for a period far smaller than the years you have quoted.
I am totally convinced now that your credibility and the veracity of your statements can be graded in your fashion (headmaster) as a very low 2/10.

Abuse is no substitute for evidence.
And if you want to understand bigotry, reading comments about Muslims and asylum seekers in the Right wing blogosphere provides an excellent primer.

    • Harry Buttle says:

The fact that you immediately blame the “Right Wing” without evidence is, by definition, bigotry you pathetic joke.

  7. HRT says:

    Hello 17…

Thank you for your analysis of reasoning I did not make.

Several times I asked a straightforward question, but your responses consisted of a blizzard of obfuscation.  A yes or a no would have done.

Thank you also for your claim that you have always looked to evidence over bigotry.  I regret that stand was not evident in previous comments, where for example, you mocked and criticised Americans and their country without once visiting there.

Here is just one of your “evidence based” statements:

God help America - home of the brave, land of the free – last haven of the lunatic.

You wrote: “I will continue to argue that IMAs are not terrorists….”.   Well done – but as nobody said that, what are you arguing about?

If the cultural enricher in question is convicted, will you continue to maintain that terrorists do not arrive by boat?  And if not, how many convictions will it take to change your mind?

1735099= logically fallacious…..my assertion of diphallia may be incorrect, or a combination of both perhaps.

  9. 1735099 says:

    Worth a read – http://blogs.crikey.com.au/northern/2014/01/18/out-from-behind-the-razor-wire/
Reminds me of the Vietnamese boat kids I encountered at Corinda SHS in 1977.
They made Aussie kids look hopeless when it came to hard work and respect for teachers.

  10. LNP Scum says:

they haven’t stopped the boats, they just aren’t telling us about them.  We will have an all out naval war with them soon with this wanker in charge of the country.

    • Kev says:

Ah – a conspiracy theorist.  You are right though – they haven’t stopped the boats yet, they have just slowed them down as they head towards a solution that will stop the boats.  Oh, and nobody is going to have an all out war with them anytime soon.

You really need to read more if you are going to comment on national and international matters.  You might also need to temper your ad hominem and abusive language.  It really means you have lost the debate before it starts.

Did you undertsand any of that?

    • Harry Buttle says:

Damn, you are so right! the RAN, Customs, the companies that do the rationing and security work, the APS, AFP not one of them has ANYONE who will tell the truth about the tide of boats getting through and the compliant media would refuse to cover any such scandal anyway!
In fact, I think they are covering this up by grinding them up once on shore and selling their remains as cat food for vast profits.
The only possible motivation for this is to cause an all out war, reintroduce conscription and annex Java to distract from the amazingly popular ALP/Greens policies.
and all of it just to keep Tony Abbott as our lord and master.
thank you for opening my eyes to this travesty. I am forever in your debt.

    • Bob says:

LNP whatever…..What part of required reporting by Govt sources don’t you understand…..the Govt reports on a weekly basis on boat arrivals.  The same Govt source is not required to report on boats that do not “arrive”…..why report on a non-event.
The current Govt (not Labor) reports weekly, if a boat arrives.  The previous Govt (Labor) reported daily in order to gain points with the media.  The media from that arrangement found that it did not have to work very hard to find a daily story…..now they have the same news item one day out of seven, if a boat arrives….if no boat arrives there is no news apart from the beat up produced by Labor/Green interests in the media…..did you understand that?

  11. 1735099 says:

    Sound advice Kev.
    But it’s got me wondering.
Here are a few ad hom comments directed at yours truly upthread -
What a colossal, self indulgent, bullshitting wanker you are numbers!
my assertion of diphallia may be incorrect, or a combination of both perhaps.
    you pathetic joke.
Now I don’t think you could reasonably construe these comments as anything else but ad hominem abuse, but they sailed through to the keeper.
Old mate LNP Scum gets a stern lecture, however.
Could it be that the amount of latitude given is related directly to the opinions expressed?
    Just saying…….

    • Harry Buttle says:

poor diddums, what a sad whiney little shit you are numbers – you are routinely caught lying, you are an absolute bigot, a self obsessed whinger and a self admitted troll.
Yet you believe, inspite of all of this you are entitled to be treated with the respect due someone who lacks your myriad personal failings?
Take a good, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why anyone would treat a piece of shit like you with respect.
Re Kevs suggestion to LNP Scum, I won’t put words in his mouth, but perhaps Kev is giving him the benefit of the doubt, that you have long since forfeited?
